64 – The Green Double

Is it green? Blue? Turquoise, perhaps?
The original interior color of this reservoir is anything but ordinary — and staying here is nothing short of extraordinary.

Once filled nearly to the ceiling with water, this lower reservoir could hold up to 800 m³, working in tandem with the upper tank to maintain water pressure for much of the city. Gravity did the job: water flowed through the large cast-iron pipes still visible on the tower’s central landing — a silent witness to Groningen’s engineering heritage.

Today, this space has been beautifully transformed into a truly unique apartment. To level out the reservoir’s curved bottom, part of the floor has been raised — creating cozy seating nooks that offer breathtaking panoramic views over the city and surrounding countryside.

A stay here feels like stepping into a piece of industrial poetry, with every element — from the bold colors to the thoughtful design — telling a story.

Layout

In the open-plan living area, you’ll find a dining table for four, multiple special seating areas and a fully equipped kitchen — perfect for cooking or relaxing together. There is also a separate toilet.

The master bedroom, located on the mezzanine level, features a comfy king-size bed and its own bathroom-en-suite. The second bedroom is equipped with a small double bed just as comfortable, stunning views and also its own bathroom-en-suite.
